Licence Information

Before you can ride any Moped or Motorcycle you must first complete a CBT, however if you took and passed your full car test before February 1st 2001 you may ride up to a 50cc Moped only, with no L-Plates, you may also take pillions but cannot ride on motorways. You will not need to take a CBT to ride a moped in these circumstances but will need one to ride a motorbike.

  • A valid UK driving licence is required before taking any motorcycle test or training, this can either be a full car licence or a provisional motorcycle licence.
  • To apply for your first provisional UK Driving Licence, Click here (Official DVLA website). To contact the D.V.L.A. by telephone, call 0300 790 6801
  • If you have a Full UK car licence the provisional category A, should be on the rear of your driving licence (D740). You can apply for your first licence at 15 and 3/4 (3 months before your 16th birthday)

Never ridden a motorcycle before?

If you have never ridden a motorcycle with gears before we would always recommend a New Rider Course first so that you can learn at your own pace and not somebody else’s.
